Real-Time Bill Fetch

PCI-DSS Compliant Gateway

1. Platform Overview & Business Architecture

The Bill Payment API provides a secure gateway to utility billers and payment networks, including the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) in India. Managing individual API integrations for hundreds of utility boards (electricity, gas, water, DTH, broadband, mobile postpaid) is an enormous development bottleneck. This API solves this by offering a unified abstraction layer.

Using our API, developers can fetch customer bills in real time by passing parameters (such as consumer numbers); execute secure payments using multiple payment methods (UPI, cards, net banking); check transaction statuses; and generate digital receipts.

Security and reliability are critical for financial platforms. Our gateway is PCI-DSS compliant and uses TLS 1.3 encryption to protect user identities and transaction details in compliance with banking regulations.

API reference

3. API Reference & Technical Endpoints

The API operates over secure HTTPS. Below are the request and response configurations for fetching and paying utility bills.

    Settlement

    4. BBPS Network Settlement Flow

Understanding the transaction flow and settlements within the BBPS ecosystem is important. How it works:

    • Validation Phase:

The consumer query goes through BBPS central nodes to retrieve the bill from the provider's billing system.

    • Debit & Lock:

Funds are locked in the client's wallet or payment route.

    • Telecom Settlement:

The payment confirmation is sent to the provider, updating the consumer account status, and settling the transaction through RBI-approved routes.

    Security

    5. Security, PCI Compliance & Transaction Safeties

Processing financial utility payments requires maintaining strict security standards:

    • PCI-DSS Compliant Gateway:

Our card vaulting and tokenization systems comply with PCI-DSS guidelines.

    • Double-Spend Prevention:

Our database uses transaction locks to prevent double-spending or duplicate debit attempts.

    • Encrypted API Tunnels:

All data is transmitted over secure TLS 1.3 channels. Client credentials and transaction payloads are encrypted.

    • Real-time Audit Logs:

Access logs record all query, fetch, and checkout events for security compliance.

    Use cases

    6. Enterprise Use Cases

Where teams deploy the Bill Payment API:

    • Digital Banking & FinTech Apps

Integrate real-time bill payments (electricity, broadband, DTH) directly into consumer banking applications.

    • Retail Payment Kiosks

Power brick-and-mortar payment kiosks, allowing agents to fetch and collect payments for walk-in customers.
